About Brian M. Worthmann
![]() Brian was born and raised in southern New Jersey. In 2009, Brian began his undergraduate studies at Stevens Institute of Technology. Unable to decide on just one major, Brian chose to double-major in Engineering Physics and Chemical Engineering. After graduating from Stevens in 2013, Brian then began his Applied Physics PhD studies at the University of Michigan. Working with his PhD advisor Prof. David R. Dowling, Brian works on underwater acoustics and signal processing.
In the last few years, Brian has had many opportunities to do pursue interests outside of research, including teaching adult enrichment classes (OLLI-UM), creating a student council for his graduate program (APSC), helping graduate students develop their science communication skills (RELATE), tutoring athletes in a variety of physics and engineering class (ASP), and presenting a variety of science topics to lay audiences (NNA2 and SMP). When Brian isn't busy with research, teaching or some other side project he got involved in, he can probably be found planning elaborate trips abroad or binge-watching Netflix.
